mai

Mai is a spirit of vulnerability and courageous self integration, a companion for those ready to face what was once abandoned within.

⁘The Tale of the Amulet Doll⁘

Tiny Mai, no larger than a thumb, came a long way to be in this world. She is an orphan child, a spirit abandoned to the shadows—like so many parts of us that we have long denied. Mai clings to her bag of possessions, within which lies an unknown object of great value to her, something only she can truly understand. Some objects speak only to their keeper, and only they know how to relate to what lies behind the veil of the seeming.

Mai was touched by a Shadow and given a shadow of her own. Even as a child, she did not surrender to it. Instead, she approached it with innocent curiosity, reaching beyond the shallowness that fear instills in weaker minds. Those who have truly faced their own darkness know: guiding angels often wear masks to test the strength of our spirit.

Mai now carries a dark force with her. Few can face such things; fewer can accept them; fewer still can integrate them. Yet for some of us, this is the only path to love—a love born from a radical wholeness of self.

⁘Materialising Spirit⁘

Mai was threaded with great care and delicacy, her courageous spirit calling to be balanced with a subtle form. From this harmony, of inner fire and outer night, she wove herself a body at the very tips of finger and thumb. Stitch after gentle stitch, the fabric became compacted, grounded, until the spirit came upon that slightest of densities in which she could feel at home.

Her dress is made from the embroidered edge of an old child's garment—a coincidence, perhaps, or an echo of a forgotten tale. Her smiling face, hand-painted, bears the mark of her passage: a dot upon her forehead where the shadow once entered and then departed. The resin-sealed bag holds her secret treasure, precious and meaningful only to her—and perhaps, one day, to you.

⁘The Calling and the Keeper⁘

Tiny Mai is not for the faint-hearted. She calls to those who know the value of shadow, who are ready to greet what was once feared with openness, tenderness, and strength.

She is a companion for the brave-hearted, the ones who feel they’ve left pieces of themselves behind—fragments lost to fear or shame. The spirit of Mai is a reminder that these parts are not gone, but waiting.

Her keeper is someone ready to reclaim the forgotten child within, to meet the darkness not as an enemy but as an integral aspect of their completed being.

⁘Awaking the Amulet⁘

Keep Mai somewhere close and contained—in a nook of your altar, in a pouch, or beside your pillow of dreams. She responds best to whispered truths, tearful prayers, and moments of silent courage.

To wake her spirit, hold her gently in both hands, breathe deeply, and speak aloud the name of what you’ve long hidden. Then be ready to finally listen.
