hetma
Totem of Inner Faith / Protection Against Conformity / Companion Through the Solitude of Self-Discovery
The journey to answer your deepest questions leads you through lands few dare to tread. Some will urge you forward, but many will make great efforts to lead you astray. It is all part of the game—a test of faith. Only you, and no other, can stand as the guardian of the truth you discover for and within yourself.
The Spirit of Hetma
One of the six sisters that form The Covenant, Hetma embodies the fundamental feminine energy of unshakable self-trust and integrity, especially in the face of obstacles and adversity. She is an amulet of the old magic of divination—of reading the lay of the universe for oneself through the casting of bones. The spirit of Hetma imbues her keeper with the strength to maintain faith in their wisdom path, offering protection against distraction and doubt when others forsake their own.
Enchanted Craft
Hetma has the heart of a black pearl, a dark mirror from the depths of the ocean, reminding her keeper to peer into the pregnant nothingness behind their own eyes to divine the truth of things. Her head is the thigh bone of a small creature, a relic from a cave—echoing the fire-and-stone days of humankind—since only those with the passion and bravery to enter the deep solitude of the earth will discover the secrets kept within.
Hetma’s Keeper
If you are Hetma’s keeper, you are on a path of divining your own understanding of existence—one that transcends the limited opinions and perspectives of others. Though you may live within society, you will not conform to it, and your way of perceiving the world will create friction with those who are either too fearful or too comfortable to accept what you represent. Because of this, you will, at times, doubt yourself, and the journey may seem lonely. But never submit to living in the shadow of another—this is Hetma’s whisper to her keeper.
How to Use Hetma
Hetma should be kept in a secret place, away from the eyes and hands of others. Her altar, ideally, should be in a cave or a cavernous alcove—a sanctuary where you embark on introspective, contemplative journeys in peaceful darkness. If she must be taken outdoors, she prefers to be carried inside a small bag or pouch, holding the thread between the known and the unknown—a traveling open portal that keeps the connection alive as you go about your worldly duties.
If not you, then who will guard the path only you can walk?
